Stacey & John’s Wedding

Stacey and John were a great couple who had their wedding ceremony and reception in one of Hawaii’s oldest venues, the Bishop Museum.  Bishop Museum was founded in 1889 in honor of his wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, a descendant of the royal Kamehameha family.  Today Bishop Museum is the largest museum in Hawaii and continues to showcase the historical culture of the Pacific and Native Hawaiians.  And if you’re looking for a different and interesting venue to host your wedding, look to the facilities of the Bishop Museum.  Their Great Lawn can host your reception of 1,000 people or their Atrium is a nice setting for something more intimate.

Stacey & John pulled together some of the best wedding vendors from their coordinator Mona Hirata of Weddings by Grace & Mona ,Flowers by Sue Yamaguchi of Su-V Expressions Hawaii , and eye catching photography by Mike & Johnny of Dulce Photo.  And for their cake, Stacey & John requested not one, but 2 wedding cakes!  First, was a traditional 3 tiered columned wedding cake adorned with rows of 8 dozen bold and beautiful Black Magic Roses.  Second, was the now popular cupcake tree holding 144 Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filled cupcakes.  The other flavors Stacey & John chose were the our Yellow Butter cake with Fresh Strawberry Cream filling and Devils Food Chocolate cake with Peanut Butter Cup filling! mmm…

Congratulations to Stacey & John!!

Christie & Daryl’s Wedding

Wedding season in Hawaii is in full swing and Christie & Daryl helped kick off the season with their beautiful May wedding.  We met with Christie & Daryl back in December when they were in town from Australia planning their Hawaiian wedding.  This Aussie couple coordinated their wedding from overseas with the the help of Dianna Shitanishi of Hawaii Weddings & Events.  Christie’s decor was a vibrant and stunning arrangement of lush turquoise, fuschia pink and yellows.  Their photos by Terra Photography are so vibrant, it makes me happy when I look at their gorgeous colors!

This Aussie couple knew early on they wanted to incorporate their love for the beach and their color palette into a bright and fun-loving wedding cake set up.  We kept the design for the cake topper simple with a few pink plumeria sugar flowers and used their custom cake topper as the focal point.  Christie had this custom topper made of herself, Daryl and their cute pup!  I love how their pup got to wear a lei too!  Their Devils Food Chocolate w/ Oreo Cream filling and Red Velvet w/ Cream Cheese filling cupcakes, were each topped with a matching handmade pink plumeria sugar flower and a variety of sugar paste seashells, sand dollars and starfishes.

Christie & Daryl sent us this email after they returned to Australia:

“Aloha Kristin, WOW! That’s all we can say about our cake.  It looked and tasted unbelievable!  Your detail and presentation is out of this world.  Choosing you to make our cake was the best decision we made.  I will definitely be recommending you to other brides!! If we could give you 20 out of 10 we would.  Mahalo again, Christie & Daryl”
Congratulations Christie & Daryl!

Wanna Play Xbox? GAME ON!!

Over the weekend we made this XBox 360 cake for my sister’s boyfriend Matt to celebrate his graduation from the University of Hawaii.  Graduation season kicked off on Saturday May 15th when over 2,000 people graduated from UH.  You can read about the graduation hereMatt was among the Class of 2010 graduates to walk the line and received his Bachelors Degree in Business Finance.  To celebrate Matt’s achievement we made him a sculpted XBox cake complete with a controller and replica of his Avatar.  Matt is an avid XBox player and Call of Duty (COD) enthusiast so it seemed fitting to snap a picture of his cake in front of the COD launch poster.  The XBox cake was sculpted out of Devils Food Chocolate cake with Cookies N Cream filling and his Avatar was made of edible sugar paste.  (His avatar reminds me of Neo from the Matrix. lol.)
Well, Good Job & Congratulations to you Matt!!  Before you take a step out into the job market, do you wanna play Xbox?  GAME ON!!

Mie & Elliot’s Wedding

Great shot of Mie & Elliot in front of the majestic Banyan tree at the Hale Koa Hotel.

One of my favorite things about making cakes is that I get to share them with my family and friends.  And when two of my friends decided to tie the knot, I was honored when they asked me to make their wedding cake.  Mie & Elliot were married on March 27, 2010 at the Bishop Memorial Chapel at Kamehameha Schools and their reception was held at the Hale Koa Hotel.

 Shaka!

Our friends with the Bride & Groom! Mike the photographer said, “Ok, now pick up your girls!” =)

 Congratulations to the newly weds!

When Mie, Elliot and I met to discuss their cake, Mie said she wanted to incorporate local flowers like pink plumerias and hibiscus’.  Their wedding cake was a simple white cake adorned with handcrafted sugar flower pink hibuscus, pink plumerias and white stephanotis arranged in bunches and in a flower dome topper.

Mie is originally from Japan and she wanted to showcase the both the local flowers and flavors for their guests from Japan.  And so, for their flavors they chose Yellow Butter Cake with Lilikoi Cream filling, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filling and Guava Cake with Guava Cream filling.  The couple followed in tradition with saving the top tier of their wedding cake to be eaten on their 1 year anniversary.

Below is an excerpt from a review Mie & Elliot left on our WeddingWire.com vendor profile:
“Thank you, thank you, thank you Kristen. What a scrumptious and beautiful wedding cake you made for us. Kristen was great to work with and flexible with her time to meet with us. She had some wonderful ideas that expanded on what we wanted on our simple yet elegant cake. The sugar flowers she made for the cake looked very realistic…  She’s definitely an up and coming cake marvel.
Mahalo nui loa Kristen, Eliot and Mie.”

Congratulations Mie & Elliot!  We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Race Cars & Cupcakes

Last weekend we put together a race car theme cupcake tree for a little guy named Cole when he turned the big #4.  Cole had lots of cupcakes to celebrate along with a fun bouncer.  Cole’s cake was made up of our Yellow Butter cake with Strawberry Cream filling, Devils Food Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookies N Cream filling & (Pinky’s favorite) Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing.

I’ve met Cole a few times when his mom, Pinky of Pinky Photograph, and I worked on a few photo shoots together.  You’re probably wondering if Pinky is a nickname but, nope, thats her real name! =)  Pinky has a fun energetic spirit and an eye for shooting great pictures.

Check out Pinky Photography for wedding, lifestyle and senior portraits.  Some of her recent work can be found on her blog.
A few weeks ago Cole came with Pinky on my family photo shoot.  Cole was a great help on the shoot and even joined the three of us in a few shots.

Cole is a great kid and loves to shoot pictures like his mama!  This is such a cute picture because the camera is too big for him!  =)

Happy Birthday Cole!
